Do you have a child that you want baptized? We have an excellent program to help parents in preparing to have their child baptized.
God wants us to be dedicated in faith, therefore we are baptized as part of our initiation into the Church's faith in Jesus Christ. In baptism, we are washed free from original sin, we become adopted children of the Father in heaven, we become members of the Church, the Body of Christ, and we accept the responsibilities of an initiated member, including following the Commandments of God by loving the Lord and our neighbor.
"You have asked to have your child baptized. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training him (her) in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring him (her) up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?" - From the 'Rite of Baptism.'
As a parent, you are the primary teacher of the Catholic faith for your child. The clergy and religious education teachers are here to assist you, but we only get a few hours a year to teach a small amount of information about Jesus. You have the privilege of being around them every day, to attend to their needs and help form their consciences according to the Catholic teachings of Christ and his Church. There are many tough questions that children ask about God as they grow up, and we want you to feel confident that the answers are available to you.
Our baptismal preparation classes are designed to give you a brief introduction about the importance of baptism, the responsibilities you will have in raising your child(ren) in the faith through regular attendance at Holy Mass and Confession, and the details of what happens during the baptismal rite.
